We believe there's strength in numbers. So we regularly
partner with other organizations to help maximize our impact in the community.
During the summer we sent teams to support the
Boys and Girls Club summer camp program. Our volunteers really love
spending time with the kids, but we also help out with programming
and fund raising. Earlier this summer, Hands On volunteers escorted
the children on a special field trip to the Gulf Islands Water Park.
In of July, we finished a mural project on the corner of Division
and Reynoir St. The Boys and Girls Club in Biloxi serves about 330
children from low income families, offering one of the only day camp
alternatives in the area, and we're proud to support them.
In September, Hands On plans to work on a second
mural on the side of our favorite sandwich shop, Le Bakery.
Hard-working volunteers need food to keep going. The Salvation
Army serves lunch to volunteers working in East Biloxi. To provide the service
during the week, they asked us to assist in food preparation and serving. So
twice a week, we send volunteers to help the Salvation Army help us.
This is a project birthed out of one volunteer’s
concern for animals. A trip to the Humane Society has become a favorite ‘light
work day’ destination. Volunteers typical walk and wash the animals, but are often
called to perform other tasks the Humane Society needs. Hands On volunteers don't stop with
just walking dogs, though. Hands On volunteers, in partnership with Triple R Pets,
have taken on the responsibility to aid the Humane Society staff pet-friendly shelters should another
hurricane strike the region.
