In July 2006, we moved to the next level of service to the communities of East Biloxi by beginning to build houses.
Since we completed our first house - Pat and Sandy Thornton - we've taken on a few more through unique and exciting partnerships.
The Guiding Light approached Hands On about commiting to a year of service in honor of
The Guiding Light's 70th anniversary. To kick off the year of service, Guiding Light decided to produce an episode whose message focused attention on
volunteering and the impact of service not only on the lives of those served, but the lives of those who serve. They dimmed the lights on their production studios in New York and came to Biloxi for a week
of building and filming.
What an unbelieveable partnership. The Guiding Light asked Hands On to select three residents and refurbish their houses. Guiding Light was so generous and energetic in their support of getting three East Biloxi families out of FEMA trailors and into their home.
All who worked on the project, actors, crew, and Hands On team leads, walked away enriched and touched by the experience. Check out the continued commitment of Guiding Light to a year of service with Hands On Network
on their website FindYourLight.net.
Bridge to Biloxi is an informal task force which coordinates work trips of caring individuals who want to help Biloxi, MS, recover from the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina.
Bridge to Biloxi sent volunteers to Biloxi shortly after the storm. In the summer of 2006, they approached us about deepening their commitment to the recovery of Biloxi by sponsoring a the rebuild of a family's house.
The first wave of building volunteers arrived in October 2006 to work on Cynthia's house in East Biloxi. It is a great partnership that both of us want to continue. We're looking to do a second house together, starting in April 2006.
