The process of disaster recovery is a complicated one.
Our social service volunteers spend their time keeping in
touch with the community through personal, ongoing
relationships as well as by partnering with other
organizations doing good work in the community.
Gulf Coast residents need more than just roofs and houses. They need help
piecing their lives back together. Sometimes it's as simple as getting clothes or food from
one of the distribution centers. Other times, the resident needs a FEMA trailer or help
recovering their lost official identification.
A small group of volunteers have chosen to dedicate their time to working
with individual residents to ensure they are connected with the resources they need. The case
management staff at Hands On has evolved out of a group of individuals who have consistently
sought to fill the unmet needs of the community since the storm. They can always use additional
short-term support on research projects and disseminating information to the community.
