 Hands On has been sending volunteers to tutor in local elementary schools since January 2006. Today, with additional resources through our AmeriCorps grant, we have expanded our youth development programming, providing in-school one-on-one tutoring and mentoring at Pass Rd. Elementary, Biloxi Alternative School and Nichols Elementary, and operating 4 after-school programs at the East Biloxi and Popps Ferry Boys & Girls Clubs, Nichols Elementary, and Pass Rd. Elementary. Throughout the summers of 2006 and 2007, Hands On volunteers and AmeriCorps members staffed the Boys and Girls Club summer camp, allowing hundreds of kids to go to camp at no cost to their families. Our volunteers serve as mentors to students and allow Hands On to provide extracurricular activities in our after school programming, including sports clubs, public art events and murals, healthy living programs, and service learning.
