The Hands On Gulf Coast
AmeriCorps Program is a team based service experience drawing members
from across the country as well as the local community to commit
anywhere from two to eleven months of service to the Gulf Coast
region’s recovery from Hurricane Katrina. By placing members
in our own volunteer service programs and with community partner
organizations, we address some of the housing, education, and
community needs of Coastal Mississippi. Our program is funded through a
grant from the Mississippi Commission for Volunteer Service, in partnership with local and national foundations, corporate sponsors, and generous individual contributions.
For Program Year 2008, HOGC
will be offering a variety of AmeriCorps Member positions allowing
individuals to commit to service that will help us address the
following issues:
- Local and non-local volunteer engagement
- Home reconstruction
- Community Green Space redevelopment
- After school program development and support
- Issue area education
- Service learning activities
- Volunteer Leader training
- Disaster preparedness and response
We are currently recruiting for members to fill full-time positions beginning 7 January 2008. See the schedule for more dates and deadlines and the position descriptions for more detail. |
